Reddit Domain Blacklist: How to Check If Your URL Is Blocked
How Reddit's Domain Blacklist Works
Reddit maintains a site-wide list of blocked domains. Any post or comment containing a URL from a blacklisted domain is automatically removed -- silently, with no notification to the poster. This is separate from subreddit-level AutoMod rules. If your domain is on this list, your links won't work anywhere on Reddit, period.
How to Check Your Domain
Create a test post or comment containing your URL in a subreddit you moderate (or use r/test). Then log out and check if the post is visible. If it's gone, your domain is likely blacklisted. You can also use third-party tools that check Reddit's spam filter status for specific domains. Keep in mind that individual URL shorteners and redirect services are often blacklisted even if your actual domain isn't.
Why Domains Get Blacklisted
- Excessive link spam -- too many accounts posting the same domain too frequently.
- User reports -- if enough users report posts containing your domain as spam.
- Hosting malware, phishing, or other security threats (even temporarily).
- Using aggressive redirect chains that obscure the final destination.
Removal and Workarounds
To get your domain removed from the blacklist, contact Reddit's admin team through r/ModSupport or the site contact form. Explain that your domain is legitimate, show that you've addressed whatever caused the blacklisting, and be patient -- the process can take weeks. In the meantime, you can still share content by posting text-only content and mentioning your brand name without linking, or by hosting key landing pages on a separate, clean domain.
